The fact that the ALA shared this link is so gloriously bitter and angry and I love it.
Is there a portmanteau for that? Angritter? Bangry?
Amazon is searching for all kinds of ways to get little chunks of change out of readers, isn’t it?
It’s less than ten dollars a month, I like that they had to list the price for a whole year to make it sound deviously overpriced. Not everyone has time to get to a library, or has a local library that has many ebook options. If it weren’t for the fact that my university has a library, I would never have the time. (Not with a 2 hours+ commute that means I’m out from 5:45am until nearly 8pm) Since it is a school library, it can’t offer me most books I want to read. My family will probably get this service, because it’s convenient for our busy lives. We also share one Amazon account between four of us, so $10 a month is pretty darn good, especially when we’re all heavy readers.
(Not to say that I don’t love libraries, I use the one at school all the time. The librarians are awesome and I use my 2-hour private study room access as much as possible. The realities of my daily life, however, just make programs like this one much more accessible to me.)
